Coming from the great Liège violin school, Philippe Koch is the third Koch generation of violin teachers in Liège; he studied at this conservatory then perfected his skills with Masters C.Ferras, P.Amoyal and A.Grumiaux.

Konzertmeister of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra for 38 years, he also pursued a career as a soloist across Europe, Japan, the United States and South America, which allowed him to play accompanied by numerous orchestras. and to rub shoulders with renowned conductors such as P. Jaervi, E. Krivine, Y. Ahronovich, A.Dmitriev, and to play in prestigious halls (Berlin Philharmonies, Brussels, Luxembourg, P.Casals Hall Tokyo, Center of Arts Seoul …) worldwide.

Passionate about chamber music, he explores its diversity within the Trio Koch, with his daughter Laurence (violin) and his son Jean-Philippe (piano), the Trio Grumiaux, and the Louvigny quartet.

Interested in conducting, Philippe Koch is also invited to conduct various ensembles. His discography (more than 35 CDs ranging from Mozart to Bussotti) has received several prestigious distinctions in the international specialist press (2 Diapasons d’Or, Choc-Monde de la Musique, Répertoire, Pizzicato…).

 

Violin professor at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, Philippe Koch also gives master classes in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Japan and Korea. He is regularly a member of the jury in various international competitions (Reine Elisabeth, Ysaye, Vieuxtemps, Grumiaux, etc.).
