Trio for piano and cords n° 1 in D flat, op. 49 (MWV Q 29)
Saint-Saëns Danse macabre gives us a little moment of mystery before the two trios ; midnight strikes then “Death at midnight plays a tune of danse, Zig and zig and zag, on her violin …”
The Zigeunertrio, Tzigane Trio, by Joseph Haydn holds of big part of its success to its inspiration from “Rondo all’ongarese” and from Poco adagio which makes violin vibrate with an admirable lyricism.
The Trio for piano and cords n°1 is one of Mendelssohn’s most famous music chamber piece. When he listened to this work which particularly pleased him, Schumann expressed his enthusiasm by calling Mendelssohn the “Mozart of the 19th century, the most brilliant musician.”
