She continued her vocal studies for a further three years with Sesto Bruscantini at the “Accademia di Santa Cecilia” in Rome, and had her opera debut there in the roles of Dorabella in “Cosi fan tutte”, as well as of Rosina in “Barbiere di Siviglia”.
Subsequently, Susanne Kelling graduated with excellence from the Conservatory in Cologne, where she earned the rare honour of being invited to sing her final soloist concert examination.
By this time, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich had already noticed Susanne Kelling and engaged the mezzo-soprano in the “Young Ensemble”.
Since this engagement, she has made numerous guest appearances at the opera houses of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Tokyo, San Carlo in Naples, Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Regio in Turin, Fondazione dell`Arena di Verona, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and the State Theatre at the Gärtnerplatz in Munich, where she has continued to be a welcome guest in various roles over the last years.
In 2010, thanks to her achievements in fostering German-Italian intercultural relations, as well as her success in Italian opera houses, Susanne Kelling was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, and knighted with the “Ordine della stella della solidarietà italiana”.
A further highlight of her career was the request of Pope Benedict XVI, on the occasion of his name day, that Susanne Kelling perform at the Vatican, together with the Henschel Quartet, Joseph Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words”, in a version for string quartet and mezzo-soprano. The concert was broadcast live on the Eurovision channel, the accompanying CD was released, the first recording of this work.
Teaching:
In 2014, the mezzo-soprano Susanne Kelling, resident in Munich, was appointed singing teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg where she helps voice students from all over the world to achieve artistic perfection.
In 2017, she was appointed Vice-President of the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg.
Additionally, she regularly gives master courses at the European Academy of Music in Montepulciano, the Conservatory Benedetto Marcello in Venice, the Holzhauser Musiktage with concert locations in various villas on the shore of Lake Starnberg (Munich) and the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence.
