Frédéric d’Ursel studied violin with Edith Volckaert, then at the Brussels Conservatory with Philippe Hirshhorn. In 1985 and 1986, he took part in the Tanglewood Festival (USA), where he played under Leonard Bernstein, Eiji Que and Léon Fleischer, and took part in masterclasses with Joseph Silverstein and the Muir String Quartet.
In the orchestra, he has played under conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Christopher Hogwood, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinbert de Leeuw, Guennadi Rojdestvensky, Antonio Pappano and Emmanuel Krivine,
Frédéric d’Ursel is a founding member of the Oxalys ensemble (1993), with which he performs throughout the world. Since 2000 he has taught violin at the Brussels Conservatoire.
Since 2011 he has been playing Bach sonatas in a duo with organist Cindy Castillo.
